Building the evidence infrastructure for SME development.

We believe SME support should not disappear into disconnected reports, training records, funding applications, mentor notes, and spreadsheets. It should become a trusted evidence record that helps entrepreneurs grow and helps institutions understand what is changing.

That is why we built Mothusi: an AI-powered SME growth platform and MGS framework designed to connect everyday business activity, support interventions, and institutional decision-making into one measurable system.

MISSION

SME development needs better instrumentation, not better intentions.

For decades, institutions have invested in the right things: training, mentorship, funding, market access, enterprise development, and sector support. But the way progress is measured has often lagged behind the work itself. Workshops were attended. Certificates were issued. Funding was disbursed. Reports were submitted. Too often, none of this created a shared, evidence-based view of whether the businesses were measurably stronger.

Avnon builds the instrumentation layer for that work.

Our flagship platform, Mothusi, captures SME activity as evidence-graded signals. The MGS framework interprets those signals across maturity, readiness, risk, confidence, and progress. Each business builds a growth record that programmes, funders, lenders, and development institutions can read with confidence.

Our position is simple: SME ecosystems do not need more disconnected tools. They need a shared evidence layer that makes progress visible, comparable, and actionable across countries, programmes, sectors, and institutions.

That is what Avnon is building.

OPERATING PRINCIPLES

Six principles. Visible in the product.

  1. 01

    Evidence over opinion

Self-reported claims and independently verified evidence are not treated the same. Every signal in the platform carries an evidence grade. Programmes, funders, and SMEs see the difference.

  2. 02

    Observed and verified, separately

A business that looks Established by behaviour is not the same as one with the evidence to prove it. We distinguish the two, and we give existing businesses a path to verify what they already know.

  3. 03

    Movement, not attendance

Programmes are measured by what changed, not who showed up. Lever movement, stage transition, issue clusters resolved.

  4. 04

    Local evidence, global language

The framework speaks one language about SME maturity. The evidence that proves maturity is whatever your country, sector, and programme already use.

  5. 05

    Responsible AI

Models capture signals. Frameworks adjudicate grades. Humans approve consequential decisions. The boundary is documented and enforced in the live system.

  6. 06

    Open methodology

The Mothusi Growth Score is published, versioned, citable, and reviewable independently of any product we build on top of it.

HOW WE WORK

How we engage.

  1. 01

    Methodology-first

Every product decision starts from the published framework. The methodology committee maintains version control and public consultation periods for material changes.

  2. 02

    Field-tested

Every operational pattern in the platform was tested across diverse SME markets - pilots and partner engagements that shaped the architecture.

  3. 03

    Procurement-ready

Engagements are scoped to institutional procurement realities: data governance, integration surface, deployment model, audit posture, and reporting cadence.

LEADERSHIP

Built across institutional delivery, technology, and SME development.

Avnon is led by a founding team with experience across enterprise software, AI engineering, SME development, development finance, and public-sector programme delivery.

The team's work has been shaped by engagements connected to National Treasury, Danida, World Bank infoDev, Qatar Foundation, FARA, Fortune 500 enterprises, financial institutions, universities, incubators, and accelerators across multiple regions.

That experience informs Avnon's view that SME infrastructure must be evidence-led, locally adaptable, procurement-ready, and useful to both entrepreneurs and institutions.

Leadership profiles, advisory relationships, and methodology-governance details are available to institutional partners during scoping conversations.
