For agriculture and sector programmes.
Sector-specific overlays, farm profiles, GIS, commodity diagnostics, offtake, on top of the standard framework.
What is broken today.
Agriculture and sector programmes deal with operational realities the standard ESD playbook ignores: planting windows, vet dispatch, commodity-specific cost structures, offtake logistics, low-bandwidth field environments. Generic SME platforms ask farmers and field officers to translate their work into language the platform understands. Mothusi reverses that.
What changes when Mothusi is in place.
- 01
Farm profiles and GIS
Structured farm and parcel records with GPS, GIS mapping, soil and climate context. Field officers capture in the field, online or offline.
- 02
Commodity diagnostics
Commodity-aware diagnostics across maize, livestock, poultry, horticulture, dairy, aquaculture, and sector-specific value chains. The right questions for the right commodity.
- 03
Farm visits and vet dispatch
Structured field visits with photo capture, GPS verification, and post-visit action items. Vet dispatch with structured intake forms and treatment records linked to the farm profile.
- 04
Offtake and market access
Buyer-to-supplier matching for farm produce. Supply-chain network mapping. Marketplace storefronts where appropriate. Offtake against verified production capacity, not against intent.
- 05
Funding readiness for agri
Agri-specific funding readiness with commodity-aware cash-flow modelling, season-aligned working capital, and verified production records. Lenders see the farm, not a generic SME template.
How it works on the ground.
An agriculture programme supporting 4,000 smallholder farmers across three districts runs farm visits, commodity diagnostics, vet dispatch, monthly production tracking, and offtake matching on Mothusi.
Field officers work offline-first on the mobile app. Captured data syncs when bandwidth returns. The programme operator and funders see the live picture of production capacity, intervention coverage, and market-access throughput from the same data the field officers entered.
The standard SME growth record sits underneath the agri-specific overlay. A farmer that wants to apply for working capital gets the same readiness flow as any other Mothusi SME, with the agri evidence already in place.
Half a billion smallholder farms are the backbone of global food security.
FAO estimates 500 million smallholder farms produce roughly a third of the world's food. They sit at the intersection of food security, climate resilience, and rural livelihoods. They are also the SME segment most poorly served by generic enterprise software.
